Spring 2008 Rancho Bernardo Trip February 29 – March 5, 2008

The winter of 2008 had been busy for us all with a lot of work and Special Olympics coaching.  It had also been an exceptionally cold, rainy, and snowy winter in Oregon, so Holly and I were looking forward to a trip to a warmer climate.  I had an business trip to the Hewlett Packard plant in Rancho Bernardo, CA planned for the first week in March, so I decided to go down early and bring Holly with.  Rancho Bernardo is just northeast of San Diego and a nice community.   During our trip we stayed at the luxurious Rancho Bernardo Inn.  The Rancho Bernardo Inn was recently renovated and was the site of the American Idol auditions this year.  There is also a world class restaurant at the RB Inn.

We arrived late on Friday and I awoke Saturday morning to a cool, cloudy day.  It looked like the weather followed us from Oregon.  We decided to go out to the coast for a drive, watched some surfers, and then enjoyed a nice Italian dinner.

By Sunday morning the skies had cleared up, and we ate the famous Sunday brunch at El Bizcocho.  After brunch we took a drive through the rolling countryside before going to see Jazz at the Bernardo Winery.  We had complimentary chauffer service from the Rancho Bernardo inn to and from the Winery which was very nice, since we probably would not have been able to find it on our own.

While I was at the HP site working during the week, Holly enjoyed some sun in the resort.  Every evening we tried a new restaurant for dinner.  On the way home to Oregon, we got fantastic views of the Cascades from the airplane including a wonderful aerial view of Crater Lake.  We could see the rim of the crater reflected on the surface of the water.
