June 31st Sweet Home/Foster Lake Trip
Well, I’ve decided to take a job with Draka back in North Carolina. I’ll be working with a lot of old friends, and I’ll have a lot more responsibility, but I will be missing out on the wonderful Oregon outdoors. Luckily Draka is located very close to the Appalachian Mountains, so I’m sure I will have many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors out east.
Since I was planning on starting the big trip out East in the first week of July, I had to cancel our Astoria trip that was planned for the July 4th weekend, and our long anticipated camping trip to the 16th Annual Oregon Jamboree. The Jamboree is a big camping and country music festival. I lucked out and got V.I.P. 9th row center tickets since Holly said she really wanted to see Kelly Pickler (a fellow Carolinian) live after we saw her performance on the CMA awards. I also lucked up and was able to reserve a coveted full hookup RV spot right in Sweet Home at the new Edgewater RV Resort and Marina.
Since I wasn’t going to be in Oregon for the Jamboree, and I didn’t want to travel too far before the long trip to North Carolina, Holly and I changed our reservations at Edgewater RV Park on Foster Lake to the weekend before I left. The staff was very helpful in accommodating us, and the resort manager, Hayward, was there to greet us when we arrived.
We had a wonderful back in spot that was butted up against some large Douglas firs and wildflowers. The grass and grounds were new, immaculately maintained, and, obviously, professionally landscaped. Despite it being the peak of the summer season, there were also only a few other RVs at the resort.
I didn’t bring my boat, but Holly and I spent the weekend taking walks on the lakeside with Sadie and Lillie. Sadie even went swimming in the lake while I was wading in the shallows. She was so proud and excited afterwards that she was such a big girl and could go swimming with her daddy. We also stopped off at the local farmer’s market and got some good gourmet cheeses and berries. Sadie and Lillie loved lounging outside in the grass. They really enjoyed the trip and were very sad to go.
While at the resort, we met the managers and the owners who were also planning on a marina for the coming year. The owners had started the project by building a few, very nice, condominiums on the lakeside. We took a tour of the condos that had wonderful views of the mountains and lake, but they were a little out of our price range, plus I was moving.
Edgewater RV resort would be worth another visit if I had the opportunity.
